I was accosted today by an advocate of Greenpeace. Now, as a general rule, I actually like activists. I have a lot of respect for people who devote themselves to a cause that is meaningful to them. But today I just wanted this guy to go away. First, you should know that I was in a VERY liberal part of Washington DC today. Way to go out on a limb that people in this area might be interested in the enviornment (sort of like the activist that tried to recruit my friend to vote for Obama in that same VERY liberal part of DC over the weekend). But this guy was so annoying that I really wished I was quicker with the retorts. You want to fight global warming? Well, I like global warming. In fact, I am excited about it since I look better in short sleeves than long, and I look fabulous in a nice tank top or sundress. And I was shocked at his indignation at the fact that I wouldn’t sign up for Greenpeace because I already support other environmental causes, namely the non-profits that my family members work at. This is when it got ridiculous. Apparently, one of the corporate sponsors of one of these non-profits is McDonalds. And as I tried to walk away from the crazy activist, he kept yelling at me “how can you not care that they are supported by McDonalds?!?”. Mostly because I like french fries. That, and I’m not such a huge fan of the environment – it’s dirty, and full of bugs.
